Why DGNB?

At DANDY Business Park, we build with care - for both people and the environment. Several of our buildings are certified according to the DGNB standard, which is one of the most recognized sustainability certifications in Europe.

But what does it really mean?
DGNB stands for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen and the certification assesses buildings from a holistic approach: not only on environmental parameters, but also social and economic ones. It's about long-term value, healthy indoor climate and responsible choice of materials - in an overall sustainability account.

The history of DGNB in Denmark
In 2010, with support from the philanthropic foundation Realdania, the Danish Council for Sustainable Building was founded by a number of players in the Danish construction and real estate industry. The association was set up to create a common direction for the industry's transition towards a sustainable future. The first major task was to identify which certification scheme should be the standard in Denmark.
In 2012, the choice fell on DGNB (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen), which was originally introduced in Germany, but has since spread to several countries and has now established itself as an international scheme.

The overriding argument was DGNB's broad approach to creating better conditions for the environment, people and society - both now and in the future. Today, DGNB is developed and administered in Denmark by the Danish Council for Sustainable Building. DGNB is continuously updated with the latest knowledge, industry experience and international standards. This is done with contributions from the entire construction value chain as well as leading experts, researchers and international partners.

Over the years, the DGNB system has succeeded in setting a common direction, establishing a common language and moving the industry closer to a sustainable future. According to Byggefakta (Sustainability Report 2024), approximately 55% of all new buildings with a construction sum of over DKK 30 million are currently certified with DGNB. Through its dissemination, DGNB has been a key part of spreading the use and knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) to the point where the LCA approach from DGNB is now part of the building regulations.
